The EYFS Progress Check at age 2 years
It is a legal requirement of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) that, if your child attends a nursery or other early years setting, they carry out a Two Year Progress Check between the ages of 24 to 36 months.
Practitioners must review their progress, and provide parents/carers with a short written summary of their child’s development in the three prime learning and development areas of: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development; and Communication and Language. This progress check must identify the child’s strengths and any areas where the child’s progress is less than expected. We gather this information by observing your child over a period of a few weeks.
The progress check has been introduced to enable earlier identification of development needs so that additional support can be put into place. If there are significant emerging concerns, or an identified special educational need or disability, the statutory requirement states that we should develop a targeted plan to support the child’s future learning and development involving parents/carers and other professionals.
The Healthy Child Programme Review at age 2 to 2 1/2 years
Health Visitors must also carry out a review of all children age 2 to 2 ½ years as part of The Healthy Child Programme which is the universal public health programme for all children and families. This is a health focused review incorporating child development, including social and emotional wellbeing.
The Integrated Review at age 2 to 2 ½ years
In Lincolnshire these two reviews, the EYFS Progress Check and the Health Visitor Health Check, have been brought together into one Integrated Review. Integrating the existing health and education reviews at age two will help to identify problems and offer effective early intervention for those children who need more support, at an age where interventions can be more effective than they would be for an older child.
It may be that you will have completed your Integrated Review before your child joins the nursery, if not we will discuss this with you and make arrangements for this to take place.
